The upper Triassic sandstones are typically of quartz arenite; detrital quartz is the dominant phase (mean 74%). The authigenic minerals within the sandstones include quartz overgrowth (0.3~9%), kaolinite (traces~11%), chlorite (traces~13%), illite (traces~4%), illite-smectite mixture (traces~7%), dolomite (traces to 17%), siderite (traces to 23%), pyrite (traces to ~3%), anhydrite (traces~2%), barite (traces~6%), and anatase in traces amounts. The pore types recognized in the studied samples are intergranular pores, intragranular, oversized, micro-pores and fracture pores. The porosity values are ranges from 1% to 18% (with an average of 10%). The permeability values, ranging from 100 to 3880 millidarcy The diagenetic history of the upper Triassic sandstone has been greatly influenced by early diagenetic processes which included development of haematite, infiltration of detrital clay, precipitation of K-feldspar, precipitation of kaolinite, chlorite, pyrite, siderite, and anatase. |
