The selection of appropriate cyclodextrin (CD) is one of the main problems in their practical application. The problem with this choice is that the applied inclusion compounds (clathrates) are often prepared in a solid phase using solid CDs. This technique has its advantages: large yields, shorter process time, less water or other competing solvent, lower costs for solvent removal. In addition, CD based are used in a solid form for many applications. But systematic comparison of the receptor properties of different cyclodextrins with the same set of guests has been carried out only using data on complex formation in aqueous solutions, what is insufficient for characterizing formation of CD solid clathrates. |
