By using the winter (from May to September) Southern Hemisphere ERA5 hourly reanalysis geopotential data in the troposphere, stratosphere and mesosphere (up to the 0.01 hPa) for 2015-2019, an analysis of the Hayashi spectra for wave disturbances with zonal wave numbers 1-10 and with periods from 8 hours to 151 days is performed. In this, contributions of the eastward traveling (E), westward traveling (W) and stationary (S) waves are estimated. The analysis showed that in the upper stratosphere - the lower mesosphere (2-0.06 hPa) of extratropical latitudes, waves propagating to the east (E) are found with a large amplitude and periods from 0.8 to 4 days, significantly exceeding the tides and planetary waves of all the types of waves considered (W, E, S). |
