    Аннотация This article discusses current problems in the field of phraseodidactics. It aims at identifying the basic principles of teaching phraseology to foreign language learners and working out strategies and mechanisms for developing phraseological competence. It should be noted that there is little research on phraseodidactics; this field requires further intensive development. Literature review shows that there is still some disagreement among educators on the volume of the phraseological optimum and the necessity to teach phraseological units to foreign language learners. Insufficient attention is paid to phraseology in most of coursebooks for German language learners.
