How to sound like a native speaker? This is an ever lasting question which has interested L2 learners in all times. In this paper, authenticity in teaching and learning foreign languages is reviewed with the aim to discover new approaches to mastering language and communicative competences of EFL learners that can enable them to sound authentic. The authors make an attempt to pose the definition of authenticity as a methodical category taking into account the research goal. The authors choose theoretical analysis of scientific literature, content analysis of pedagogical literature, analysis of their empirical experience of teaching foreign languages as the leading methods of the research, which allow them to develop the theoretical framework that establishes the grounds for conducting a pedagogical experiment at the second (final) stage of the study. The authors also present a set of pertinent training exercises aimed at exposing EFL learners to authentic language. Finally, the paper discusses issues and practices of teaching authenticity in EFL class and offers general recommendations for the English language instructors.
