Аннотация |
The upper Triassic sandstone reservoir is one of the most important oil and gas reservoirs
at the east of Syria, it contains about 60 % of the total hydrocarbon volume at the
area. The sandstones from this reservoir were characterised for their mineralogical and
chemical properties. The experimental methods; optical microscope, scanning electron
microprobe SEM, X-ray diffraction analysis (XRD), X-ray fluorescence analysis (XRF),
and diffraction system analysis (EDS) have been compared for this reservoir. The study
showed the upper Triassic sandstones are typically of quartz arenite, detrital quartz is
the dominant phase (mean 74%) with an argillaceous matrix and some carbonate cement,
with a small proportion of amorphous material. Quartz overgrowth is one of the
most important authigenic minerals within upper Triassic sandstones, it presents in all
the samples and occupies between traces to 9%, and form a syntaxial overgrowth the
detrital grains and cement between the grains. The representative XRD shown that the
quartz is the main mineral present in all the studied samples and content from 55 to
85%. The content of other non-clay minerals includes K-feldspar, plagioclase, dolomite,
siderite, anhydrite, barite, pyrite, halite and mica. XRF analysis identified chemical elements within the different types of the upper Triassic sandstones such as: aluminium
(Al), silicon (Si), titanium (Ti), iron (Fe), manganese (Mn), magnesium (Mg), calcium
(Ca), sodium (Na), potassium (K) and phosphorus (P). The proportion of SiO2 and
Al2O3 results are slightly higher for most samples, this reflect silica based and clay
content for these sandstones. |
