The relevance of the investigated issue is determined by scientific and technological progress needs. The need for specific terms in various subject and their adequate translation emerged long time ago. This article is focused on the phenomenon of homonymy, which also includes physical terms related to cosmology. The article reveals that homonyms and their forms are quite common in scientific articles in Russian. Accordingly, there is a need to choose the correct analogue for them in the translation language. This is quite an interesting and difficult task for the translator. This study is associated with the development of astrophysics and the need to continue scientific interactions in view of the restriction of personal contacts and the necessity of switching to remote operation. Our aim is to examine the use of homonyms and their derivatives in English in professional texts in the field of cosmology. The main result of the research is a selection and translation of the widely used homonymous terms in the field of cosmology. Materials of the article can be useful for space researchers, specialists in cosmology, astrophysics, and gravity, as well as for researchers in other related fields. |
