Аннотация The contemporary historiography mainly considers the women's activism as an institutional phenomenon, losing thus the stories of individual women behind the history of different organisations. What is more, the memoirs of women who did not have a public career and were not linked to any important male historical figure remain almost unknown to researchers – they do not transcend the boundaries of personal or family archives. The article is devoted to the diary of hereditary noblewoman Nina (Anna) Beliavskaia (1884-1970) whose period of personal and professional development corresponds to the years of the first Russian revolution (1905-1907). In this diary, Beliavskaia's reflections on herself and on the examples of her female entourage demonstrate the way in which women could become involved in the revolutionary events of the early 20th century.
