A biomechanical model and mathematical formulation of the problem of the peristaltic propulsion of a rigid sphere (bolus) along the biological tube are presented. The tube is modelled on a soft orthotropic cylindrical shell reinforced by incompressible and transversely isotropic muscle elements. The model describes the dynamics of propagation of wave of excitation along the muscle layers, active force generation and the transport of a bolus. The sphere in motion is subjected to dry and viscous friction. The contact forces between the wall and bolus are assume. |
