The national languages of the Turkic peoples of the Volga region have
great theoretical and practical importance for linguistics. The rich historical and
modern material of these languages is in the focus of both foreign and domestic
scientists. This article is devoted to the problems of the comparative and historical
study of Turkic languages, namely the study of the vocalism of the Tatar, Bashkir
and Chuvash languages. This issue remains relevant numerous studies on the
issues of the vocalism of these Turkic languages. It is important to continue
research in this areadueto the fact of clarifying the causes of different sounds, and
the presence of common elements as well as the evidence of the possibility of the
influence of one language on another one. It is necessary to study not only
individual languages separately, but languages belonging to the group of related
languages taken together. The Volga-Kama region is particularly interesting in this
regard. This territory is a junction of Turkic (Tatar, Chuvash, Bashkir) and FinnoUgric (Mari, Udmurt) languages. The modern Tatar, Bashkir and Chuvash
languages have common points in etymology, which is manifested in the language
material. Being separated from other Turkic languages in areal, the compared
languages have the peculiarities of development over the centuries.
