In this work we study the molecular orientations of highly anisotropic nitroazobenzene chromophores embedded in a sub 10 nm thick polymer film with a polarization-controlled tip-enhanced Raman scattering (PC-TERS) method. The NF polarization changes by handling a gold tip which is glued to a quartz tuning fork sensor operating in tapping mode in air, as shown in Fig. 1(a). Polarization-dependent Rayleigh scattering patterns, are computationally and experimentally studied when a gold tip is raster scanned over a laser spot. The in-plane and out-plane arrangement of chromophores in the glassy polymer are mapped with the PC-TERS method when a radially polarized and azimuthally polarized doughnut laser modes are used for optical pumping. |
