    Annotation The competitiveness of regional entities is a well studied issue in the economic and economic-geographical research. Numerous authors have successfully worked out the issues associated with the study of competitive advantages of regions, factors of competitiveness, investment attractiveness. The article considers the concept of potential of competitiveness of different regions, as well as the analysis of the competitiveness of Russian regions located in the European part of the country. The relevance of this topic is that improving the competitiveness of Russian regions is critical to their sustainable development, ensure food security and other state, creates a more complex socio-economic system regional territory. The increase of competitive advantages of the region contributes to the welfare of the population, as well as the rational use of resources.
