  • Bibliographic description in the original language The upper Triassic Sandstone, Mulussa F Formation (MUF) in the Euphrates Graben Fields east of Syria on the Arabian plate continental margin is an oil/gas reservoir. Petrographic analysis combined with X-ray diffraction, and core analysis has been used to assess timing of growth and origin of minerals and cements. Depositional and early diagenetic characteristics of the upper Triassic Sandstone are typical of a fluvial environment. Conspicuous authigenic phases within the sandstones include quartz overgrowths (~5%), kaolinite (up to ~13%), pyrite (0~2%), siderite (up to 24%), ferroan dolomite (up to 37%), anhydrite (0 to 2%), Chlorite (0~2%), Authigenic hair-like Illite (0~2%). The most important of these phases are authigenic quartz and kaolinite, with siderite and dolomite generally only significant on a localized scale. The diagenetic history of MUF sandstones has been greatly influenced by early diagenetic processes which included clay infiltration of sandstones, and the precipitat
