Compact coiled heat exchangers of the pipe-in-pipe type with varying bending radius of the helix are proposed. A universal engineering method for calculating the heat and hydrodynamic characteristics of such devices has been developed. The thermodynamic characteristics of conical coil apparatuses are determined.
An experimental study of heat exchange in a conical coil-type heat exchanger of the "pipe-in-pipe" type is carried out. Empirical formulas for the Nusselt number and the coefficient of hydraulic resistance are obtained. It has been established and experimentally confirmed that conical coil heat exchangers are more effective than known cylindrical coils.
The proposed heat exchangers can be recommended for use in hot water supply systems, heating of residential and industrial facilities.
The compactness of the heat exchangers allows them to be placed on a small area in a cottage, office, kindergarten, school, boarding school, etc.
