Annotation |
The study examines the semantics of
derivatives formed by means of
quasisuffixes. The functional aspect of
such morphemes as –geddon/–mageddon,
–erati, –pocalypse, –licious and –
splaining is analyzed. The authors
attempt to make a distinction between the
terms of «suffix« and ―quasisuffix‖. The
discussion of terminology complements
the issue of English word formation and
throws light to the morphological status
of quasisuffixes. The study's findings
support the idea that quasisuffixes are
relatively autonomous derivational
morphemes marked by pragmatic features
and the ability to develop connotative
meanings. |
