dc.description.abstract	The Lower Carboniferous of the Volga-Ural Basin contains a large number of oil reservoirs which are confined to carbonate and terrigenous rocks. The territory of the South Tatar arch is located in the central part of the Volga-Ural Basin and contains many Visean incised valleys which are filled by terrigenous sediments and are underlain by Tournaisian carbonates. Visean incised valleys are characterized by increased thicknesses of terrigenous deposits and often contain thick intervals of sand reservoirs with high hydrocarbon potential. We studied 39 wells that were drilled in the Visean terrigenous deposits and in the underlying Tournaisian carbonates. The Lower Visean (Bobrikian) incised valleys represent the main object of our study. The correlation of the wells based on well logging datasets was carried out, to define the thickness of eroded Tournaisian carbonates and the thickness of the Bobrikian terrigenous beds filling the incised valleys.
