Provided there exists a linear relationship between the mean radius of air-hydrate crystals and their age in old polar ice, one may be able to date deep Antarctic ice from the measured sizes of air hydrates. In order to further investigate this relationship, we performed an experimental study of the geometrical properties of air hydrates in the well dated EPICA DC ice core between 2800 and 3259 m (400-800 ka and to 900 ka). |
