Annotation In this paper, a method for samples detection of ionosphere propagation modes in a signal spectrum at the output of a chirp ionosonde receiver is considered. A two-component mixture model is proposed for a statistical description of the spectral samples of such signal. It was assumed that the spectral samples of a detected signal are greater than the samples that are not related to the desired signal. Within this model it was found that a hazard function can be used for samples detection of a second component in the mixture at small values of its samples in the total number of samples. A method for signal detection of the ionosphere propagation modes on ionograms based on training sets is proposed. The training sets are divided into two classes: containing the desired signal and not containing the desired signal. An average normalized hazard function is determined by the training set, which does not contain the desired signal. Normalization is carried out in such a way that the hazard
