Annotation The East was the object of the author's attention of I. A. Goncharov. In the novel “Oblomov”, as everybody knows, there are bright oriental details, from the well-known “Persian caftan” to the “aromas of the Orient”, which a cambric strap of Volkov, a visitor to a rented apartment in Gorokhovaya Street, exuded. Goncharov in his travel essays “Frigate “Pallada” runs to descriptive details of the world of Southeast Asia, its exotic landscape and cultural features.
