The Mechetlino Quarry section and Mechetlino Section are situated on the right bank of the
Yuryzan river in the Salavat region of the Republic of Bashkortostan. The MQ section is a potential candidate
for the GSSP of the lower boundary of the global Kungurian Stage in the International Stratigraphic Chart (Cisuralian, Permian). The MQ was used as a basis for the first geopark
in Russia. The management of the sanatorium Yangan-Tau, the government of Bashkortostan, together with
a team of scientists supported by the RFBR grant 16-05-00306a, excavated the MQ section in 2016–2018. They
used the infrastructure of the sanatorium Yangan-Tau to create a geopark, which includes geological,
geographical, ethnographic, biological and archaeological objects. |
