dc.description.abstract	Synonymy has been thoroughly discussed in lexicology and semasiology, though the issueof what problems may synonymy as a linguistic phenomenon pose for the translator is a novel approach that allows combining and applying lexicological and comparative methods of research in translation study and practice. The author employs componential analysis in solving the problem of translator's selection of the appropriate term in rendering synonyms. The article considers frequency quotient and the factor of style as determinants for translation solution. The study draws the conclusion that the difficulties that language synonymy poses for the translator need further investigation through componential analysis of word structure and relations of proximity by means of contrastive and comparative analyses of the phenomenon of synonymy in the languages involved in the translation act. The author provides recommendations for differentiating synonyms when choosing a translation solution.	ru_RU
