Annotation The polymorphism of microtriches is revealed in scolex and strobila tegument specialized to the attachment or trophic function. Opposite the early descriptions, four types of the polymicrotriches occur on the bothria distal surface and margins that are involved in the scolex attachment. The ultrastructure of polymicrotriches and the hypothesis of their polymeric nature were demonstrated. Acicular filitriches, capilliform filitriches, and microvilli in the frontal part of the scolex are described as trophic microtriches. The process of vertical division and forming of doublets, triplets, or quartets under a common cytoplasmic membrane has been described. Ciliated and unciliated sensory organs are found on the scolex.
