In the Japanese language one can find the multitude of paremiological expressions referring to the human body, known as 体言葉 [karada-kotoba, literally Body language] or 身体語彙 [shin- tai-goi, literally Body Vocabulary] which express the unique character of Japanese culture, providing the rich expressions for human sensibilities and feelings. The aim of the current study is to investi- gate the Japanese intelligibility splanchnonymic paremias 肝 [liver], 胸 [breast/chest], 腹 [stomach/ belly]. In this article “intelligibility” was defined as whether or not words or phrases are correctly interpreted by interlocutors in international communication. |
