Since cities are facing the consequences of climate change, new environmental requirements, and a trend
towards improving the quality of urban life, developing mechanisms to incentivize and support developers of
construction projects is becoming increasingly important for enhancing sustainability. Following the «green«
principles mainly involves environmental technological construction standards, which affect the economy of
commercial and residential real estate development projects. The economic model of implementing a «green«
development project, typical for Russian cities, presented in the research part of this article, allows examining
mechanisms for stimulating developers. Empirical results firstly show that the driving forces generated by scientific and technological «green« innovations, environmental regulation, significantly influence the economy of development projects and can either push Russian cities towards achieving green and sustainable development or hinder them due to reduced project profitability. Secondly, key factors influencing the economy of «green« development projects are identified, which should be the focus of attention for selecting mechanisms to support developers. The results of the study can be used by business structures to make decisions on choosing the concept of urban development projects, as well as by development institutions and government bodies to select methods and volumes of support for «green« projects in Russian cities |
